Xi Beach is nothing like the typical Kefalonian beach, with its golden sand or limestone pebbles. It’s covered with argillaceous sand & rocks that look like statues. If you look at it from above you can easily understand where it got its name. The bay where this beach is located looks like the greek letter “ξ” which is pronounced (Xi). The following images are extremely impressive and reveal the unique morphology that Greece has along its shores.
Clay is a general term to describe any type of fine-grained natural soil material containing argillaceous minerals, varying amounts of metal oxides and organic compounds. Clay has the ability to develop plasticity when wet, due to its molecular film of water surrounding the clay particles. On the other hand it becomes hard, brittle and non–plastic upon drying or firing. Typical and oldest examples of Clay/Argillaceous products are all ceramic materials.
The main reason for the creation of claylike soil is the erosion & wear of the rocks, mainly silicon, due to the presence of carbon dioxide, giving us this spectacular outcome.
⚕ Clay has also therapeutic abilities/effects when applied on a human body and can treat:
Rheumatologic disorders
traumatic treatment
gynecological diseases
Cardiovascular disease
Skin diseases
Nervous system diseases.
That is achieved through:
-Skin temperature increase
-Increase of electrical conductivity
-Changes in the capacity of the membrane
-Influence in the phenomenon of absorption
-Hyperaemia of the capillaries
-Activation of sweat glands
-Activation of Enzymes – Hormones.
